This commit refactors the `Mle` modules and combines the `MleRouter`
and `Mle` classes into a single `Mle` class which now handles both
FTD and MTD functionalities.
The `MleRouter` and `Mle` classes were originally intended as
sub-classes, where the base class `Mle` would provide MTD and common
behaviors, and `MleRouter` would implement FTD-specific behaviors.
However, over the years and as new features were implemented, these
two classes became more intertwined, and the `Mle` class began to
include many FTD-related functions and interactions with `MleRouter`
private variables and methods.
This commit simplifies the code by combining the two into a single
class. The previous `mle_router.cpp` file is also renamed to
`mle_ftd.cpp` to indicate that it implements FTD-specific MLE
behaviors.
This commit introduces several changes to the `Child` class for
managing registered IPv6 addresses by MTD children:
- A new method, `Child::GetIp6Addresses()`, is added, returning the
`Array` of registered IPv6 address entries. This array includes all
tracked child IPv6 addresses except for the mesh-local EID, which
can be retrieved using `Child::GetMeshLocalIp6Address()`.
- The simplified model enables easy iteration over the address array
using `Array` range-based `for` loops. With this change, the
complex `AddressIterator` and `AddressIteratorBuilder` nested
classes are removed, streamlining the code.
- MLR state tracking for child IPv6 address entries is simplified with
the introduction of a new class, `Child::Ip6AddrEntry`,
representing a registered IPv6 address entry. This class provides
`GetMlrState()` and `SetMlrState()`, enforcing that the MLR state
can only be set on a child IPv6 address entry.
This commit renames the methods for retrieving mesh local addresses to
`GetMeshLocalRloc()` and `GetMeshLocalEid()` (from `GetMeshLocal16()`
and `GetMeshLocal64()`, respectively) to align with the terminology
used in the Thread specification. Member and local variables are also
renamed accordingly.
This commit updates unit test modules to be defined under the `ot`
namespace. This aligns all the unit tests to follow the same
model, eliminating the need to use `ot::` prefix in unit test
code.
This commit moves the `instance` module to a newly added folder
`core/instance` (from `core/common`. Header file `extension.hpp`
and its example is also moved to the same folder.
This commit updates `VerifyOrQuit()` and `SuccessOrQuit()` macros to
include the failed condition in the error message that is printed on
a failure (in addition to function name and line number where the
error happened). This commit also changes the second parameter
(`aMessage`) to in these macros to be optional.
This commit also updates unit tests to remove the second `aMessage`
string in cases where the failure can be inferred from the condition
itself.
This commit adds a new core header files `common/error.hpp` which
defines `ot::Error` (mirroring `otError`) and `kError{Name}` constants
(mirroring the public `OT_ERROR_{NAME}` definitions). The new (C++
style) definitions are used by core modules. This commit also moves
`otThreadErrorToString()` (from `logging.hpp` to `error.hpp`) and
renames it to `ErrorToString()` which is used as the internal (to
core) function to covert an `Error` to a string.
This commit enhances the iterator `Child::AddressIterator` which is
used to iterate over IPv6 address list of a `Child`. The new model
enables range-based `for` loops to be used. It also enables filtering
addresses based on type (e.g., iterate over multicast addresses only).
The unit test `test_child.cpp` is also updated to verify the newly
added functionalities of `AddressIterator`.
This commit updates `Ip6::InterfaceIdentifier` class adding new helper
methods to it (e.g., generate random IID, or convert IID to/from a MAC
Extended Address). It also updates the `Ip6::Address` methods (related
to getting/setting/checking IID) to use the `Ip6::InterfaceIdentifier`
type.
The larger change in this commit is to update other core classes and
modules (`Lowpan`, `Mle`, `Settings`, 'AddressResolver', `Child`,
etc.) to use the `Ip6::InterfaceIdentifier`/`Ip6::Address` type and
their new/changed methods.
This commit also adds a new `struct` type `otIp6AddressComponents` to
the public OT API header `ip6.h`. This type represents the components
of a (unicast) IPv6 address, i.e. a network prefix and an IID. The
`otIp6Address` uses the new type as one of its `union` representations
of an IPv6 address.
This commit changes the `Neighbor` class (and therefore its sub-classes
`Child` and `Router`) to inherit from `InstanceLoatorInit`. It adds
`Init()` method to them as well and ensures that they are initialized
before use from `ChildTable`, `RouterTable` and `Mle` classes.
This commit removes the extra `\n` at the end of error message strings
used in `VerifyOrQuit()` or `SuccessOrQuit()` macros in different unit
test modules. This help make the style (usage of macros) consistent
across all unit tests.
This commit changes how the objects in OpenThread access each other.
It adds a template `Get<Type>()` method in `InstanceLocator`. This
method returns a reference to a given `Type` object belonging to the
OpenThread instance (e.g. `Get<MeshForwarder>()` returns a reference
to `MeshForwarder` object on the OpenThread instance). The
`InstanceLocator` is used as base class of all OpenThread classes so
every class can easily access any other object. This commit also
changes how the main instance is retrieved in `InstanceLocator` for
the single-instance case. The method `GetInstance()` directly uses the
raw buffer `gInstanceRaw`. This change helps make the `GetInstance()`
and in turn all `Get<Type>()` methods in-line. This commit also
removes the existing getters across all classes to use the new
`Get<Type>()` model.
This commit adds a new method `Child::GetMeshLocalIp6Address()`
to get the mesh-local IPv6 address registered by a child. The
unit test `test_child` is also updated to verify the new method.
This commit changes how a mesh-local IPv6 address is stored in
`Child` class. Instead of storing the entire IPv6 addresses (16
bytes), only the Interface Identifier (8 bytes) is saved. The full
address is derived (when needed) using the mesh-local prefix from
`Mle`. This reduces the memory required for storing registered IPv6
addresses in the child table.
This commit also updates the unit test `test_child` to use mesh-local
IPv6 address as part of the test and verify the behavior of new
implementation.
This commit updates/enhances the `Child` class methods related to
managing of the list of IPv6 addresses associated with a child. The
new model provides APIs to add or remove an IPv6 address, check if the
list contains an address, and a method to iterate through all IPv6
addresses of a child. The `mle_router` and `address_resolver` and NCP
implementations are updated to use the new APIs.
This commit also adds a unit test `test_child` to verify the newly
added methods.
